It was not long ago that cameras were a rarity on all but luxury cars. In 2018, as many automotive cameras were shipped as were vehicles! This presentation will quantify the likely future growth, and explore the applications and industry forces that are driving camera fitment. The automotive industry is also undergoing unprecedented change, with long-standing vehicle architectures and business models under threat. This presentation will thus also look at the wider automotive landscape as it impacts the embedded vision community, examining topics such as centralized vs. decentralized architectures and the impact of automated driving on the value chain.

Session Speakers

  • Ian Riches is an Executive Director in the Global Automotive Practice at Strategy Analytics. He heads research teams that provide forecasts and analysis of automotive electronic systems, semiconductors and sensors on a worldwide basis. His areas of research include powertrain, chassis, safety, security and body applications – including high-growth areas such as hybrid and electric vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles. Before joining Strategy Analytics, Ian spent two years as assistant editor of Automotive Engineer, the UK magazine published by the IMechE. He has also held the position of Press Officer/Technical Author for MTL, a safety-related electronic equipment manufacturing company. With over twenty years of analyst experience, he is one of the foremost industry analysts in the automotive electronics sector. Ian holds an MA in engineering from Cambridge University, UK, where he specialized in fluid dynamics, turbo-machinery and internal combustion engines.

  • Manisha Agrawal has been a Software Applications Engineer with Texas Instruments Incorporated since 2006. She has 17 years of experience in end-to-end signal chain processing of video applications including video capture, compression/de-compression, pre- and post-processing of images, 2D and 3D graphics acceleration and display. Her current area of interest is applications surrounding artificial intelligence and deep learning. Manisha received her Master’s degree in Digital Signal Processing from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and has three patents.
