A Computer Vision-Based Personal Trainer That Runs On Your Phone

I will describe our journey at Twenty BN towards building an AI-powered personal trainer that runs on your phone. The trainer takes the form of an on-screen avatar that watches and listens to you using the phone’s camera and microphone. This allows it to provide feedback on your form and to continuously adapt your training plan as a function of your effort, form and progress. In this talk, I will describe the challenges behind creating the real-time on-device AI system that powers the avatar’s behaviors and the data generation efforts that went into training it.

Session Speakers

  • Roland Memisevic received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Toronto in 2008, doing research in deep learning. He subsequently held positions as a research scientist at PNYLab, Princeton, as a post-doc at the University of Toronto and at ETH Zurich, and as a junior professor at the University of Frankfurt. In 2012, he joined the MILA institute at the University of Montreal as a faculty member (adjunct since 2016). He is currently CEO and Chief Scientist at the Canadian-German AI startup Twenty Billion Neurons (20bn.com), which he co-founded in 2015.
