Although it’s not widely known outside of the industry, computer vision is beginning to be used at scale in agriculture, where it is delivering meaningful improvements in efficiency and quality, with the potential for tremendous impact on how our food is grown. In this presentation, we introduce deployed agricultural computer vision solutions for harvesting and spraying. We explore key technical challenges that John Deere had to overcome to create these solutions and highlight the ways in which agricultural vision applications often have requirements that are quite different from those of automotive and commercial applications.

Session Speakers

  • Travis is the Delivery Manager for the Automation Delivery team at John Deere with the Intelligent Solutions Group. Travis has helped lead the engineering delivery for many of the first embedded vision and machine learning products at John Deere. Prior to his current role, Travis has been involved with Tractor-Implement automation projects, electrohydraulic systems, automated steering and virtual simulation solutions while at John Deere. Prior to John Deere, Travis worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and at the Naval Program Office working with torpedo and torpedo training solutions for the US Navy. Travis has a BSEE from South Dakota State and a ME in Acoustics from Penn State.
