Open Standards: Powering the Future of Embedded Vision

Open standards play an important role in enabling interoperability for efficient deployment of vision-based systems. In this session, Neil Trevett, Khronos Group President, will share an update on the family of Khronos Group standards for programming and deploying accelerated inferencing and embedded vision, including OpenCL, Vulkan Safety Critical, OpenVX, SYCL and NNEF. Neil will discuss the evolving roadmap for these standards and provide insights to help you understand which standards are relevant to your projects. In addition, Neil will introduce the new Khronos Embedded Camera API initiative. He will outline the technical direction of the Embedded Camera API working group to create an open standard to streamline the integration and control of sophisticated embedded camera systems and highlight how attendees can participate in this important industry initiative.

  • Neil is Vice President of Developer Ecosystems at NVIDIA where works to enable applications to leverage advanced silicon acceleration. Neil is also the elected President of the Khronos Group standards consortium where he has helped initiate and evolve royalty-free open standards such as OpenCL, OpenVX, NNEF, OpenXR, Vulkan, OpenGL ES, WebGL and glTF – many of which are widely deployed in the graphics, embedded vision and machine learning industries. Neil also catalyzed and chaired the recent joint Exploratory Group with the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) that has resulted in the ongoing development of an Embedded Camera API open standard at Khronos.
