Our panel of distinguished industry experts will share their insights on what it will take to unlock the full potential of this groundbreaking technology, empowering it to enhance ease of use, safety, autonomy and numerous other capabilities across a wide range of applications.

We will delve into the challenges that early adopters of perceptual AI have faced and why some product developers may still perceive it as too complicated, expensive or unreliable—and what can be done to address these issues.

Above all, we will chart a path forward for the industry, aiming to “cross the chasm” and make perceptual AI an accessible and indispensable feature of everyday products.

  • Jeff Bier is President of the engineering consulting firm BDTI and Founder of the Edge AI and Vision Alliance. For over 25 years BDTI has helped hundreds of companies select the right processors, algorithms and tools and develop optimized, custom algorithms and software for demanding applications in audio, video, machine learning and computer vision. If you are choosing between processor options for your next design, need a custom algorithm to solve a unique visual perception problem, or need to fit demanding algorithms into a small cost/size/power envelope, BDTI can help. Jeff also oversees the Edge AI and VIsion Alliance, a partnership of 100+ technology companies that works to enable the widespread use of practical computer vision and to help companies find their best opportunities in this burgeoning space. Jeff is a frequent invited speaker at industry conferences. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Princeton and UC Berkeley, respectively.

  • Pete Warden is a leading thinker, innovator and entrepreneur in visual AI, software and big data. In 2003, Pete created a set of 45 image processing filters that were able to detect features in video content at 30 fps on 2003-era laptops. Apple bought his technology and hired him to work on integrating it into Apple’s imaging-related products. In 2011, Pete co-founded Jetpac, serving as CTO and building the company’s technical team. This venture capital-backed startup created a unique product that analyzed the pixel data of over 140 million photos from Instagram and turned them into in-depth guides for more than 5,000 cities around the world. Pete joined Google in 2014 when Google acquired Jetpac. At Google, Pete led the development of the TensorFlow Lite machine learning framework for mobile and embedded applications, including a recently released experimental version of TensorFlow Lite for microcontrollers, which can be used on low-cost chips with less than 100 Kbytes of memory. In 2022 Pete left Google to co-found Useful Sensors, where he is currently the CEO. Useful Sensors creates low-cost, easy to integrate hardware modules that bring ML capabilities like gesture recognition, presence detection and voice interfaces to everyday appliances while preserving users’ privacy. Pete is a sought-after speaker and writes a popular blog at www.petewarden.com. He is the author of three O’Reilly books, “Public Data Sources”, “Big Data Glossary” and “Tiny ML”. He earned his B.S. in computer science from the University of Manchester, and is currently enrolled in a PhD program at Stanford University.

  • Jason Lavene is Director of Advanced Development Engineering at Keurig Dr Pepper in Burlington, Massachusetts. He is responsible for enabling new technologies and bringing advanced development projects to mass production. Previously, Jason held architect positions at Intel, Juniper Networks and Wind River Systems.

  • Dr. Lokwon Kim is CEO of DEEPX. Prior to DEEPX, Dr. Kim spent over a decade in leading research labs and companies such as Apple, Cisco Systems, the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Broadcom, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and Hynix Semiconductor (now SK hynix), where he played a key role in the design and verification of computer hardware systems used widely around the world. At Apple, Lokwon led design and verification of application processors used in the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and more. At Cisco, he played a key role in modeling, design and verification of network router core chipsets. He was the recipient of the Cisco Achievement Program Award in recognition of outstanding employee efforts and achievements. Lokwon earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering at UCLA.

  • Dean Kamen is an innovator, but not just of things. He hopes to revolutionize attitudes, quality of life and awareness. While an undergraduate, Kamen developed the first portable infusion device, which delivers drug treatments that once required hospital care. And, through DEKA Research & Development, he developed a portable dialysis machine, a vascular stent and the iBOT, a motorized wheelchair that climbs stairs. Kamen is a huge believer in education. In 1989 he established the nonprofit FIRST to inspire teenagers to pursue careers in science and technology. FIRST sponsors lively annual competitions, where students form teams to create the best robot. FIRST teams frequently use computer vision to enable their robots to operate autonomously. Kamen’s newest venture—the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute—aims to enable the large-scale manufacturing of engineered tissues and tissue-related technologies, with the eventual goal of mass-producing replacement human organs.
