How will generative AI transform how we think about AI, and how we use it? What types of commercial applications are best suited for solutions powered by today’s generative AI technology?

Will recent advances in generative AI change how we create and use discriminative AI models, like those used for machine perception? Will generative AI obviate the need for massive reservoirs of hand-labeled training data? Will it accelerate our ability to create systems that effortlessly meld multiple types of data, such as text, images and sound?

Session Speakers

  • Roland Memisevic received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 2008 under the supervision of Prof. Geoffrey Hinton. He has been a faculty member at MILA (University of Montreal) and at the University of Frankfurt, Germany. In 2021 he joined Qualcomm AI research, following the acquisition of startup Twenty Billion Neurons, which he co-founded in 2016. Roland's research interests are end-to-end learning, multi-modal reasoning and the emergence of concepts in neural networks.

  • Vivek Pradeep is a Partner Research Manager at Microsoft, where he has worked with the Applied Sciences team for over 11 years. He runs the AI division for Windows, which helps build and ship computer vision, audio and LLM-based experiences on client silicon. He received his PhD from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 2011 where he worked on a wearable SLAM system. Before that, he received his undergraduate degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

  • Greg Kostello is an accomplished technologist and entrepreneur with over three decades of experience in the technology industry, focusing on AI, NLP and SaaS solutions. He began his career at Apple and developed for NeXTSTEP, which gave him the opportunity to work with industry icons like Bill Campbell and Steve Jobs. As the CTO and Co-Founder of Huma.AI, he has spent the past seven years improving healthcare inefficiencies by creating a machine learning platform that uses an organization’s data to learn and adapt.   • Sally Ward-Foxton covers AI technology and related issues for EETimes.com and all aspects of the European semiconductor industry for EETimes Europe magazine. Sally has spent more than 15 years writing about the electronics industry from London, UK. She holds a Masters' degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
