Special Interest Group: Generative AI at the Edge

Generative AI is taking the world by storm. Yet questions abound about generative AI at the edge: Is it necessary? Is it feasible? What are the use cases? What are the barriers to adoption? The Edge AI and Vision Alliance is forming a special interest group (SIG) to focus on accelerating the adoption of generative AI at the edge across a range of industries and applications. We hope this SIG will become a “watering hole” where the ecosystem of stakeholders comes together to discuss best practices, design directional frameworks, teach and learn, tackle industry-wide problems, create a knowledge repository and connect buyers and suppliers. Session Speakers

  • Phil Lapsley is a Co-Founder and Vice President at the engineering consulting firm BDTI and Vice President of Business Development at the Edge AI and Vision Alliance. At BDTI he leads computer vision and embedded AI projects. Previously, he worked at several start-ups, as well as at McKinsey & Company, a management consulting company that advises Fortune 100 companies on business strategy. He holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is the author of Exploding the Phone (2014), a history of the first network hackers, co-author of DSP Processor Fundamentals (1997) and inventor or co-inventor on 26 patents. He is also the co-creator of Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP; Internet standard RFC 977) and was a contributor to the Berkeley UNIX project.

  • Kerry Shih is a serial product creator and has started seven technology companies to date. Kerry goes where he is most inspired and of late that’s all about generative AI. Recently he created GenAI Nerds, a community of now 500K+ people that research and discuss the latest topics. Kerry’s companies include OStream, Ripl Networks, TrustedSky, Spatial, RiverBox, Servera and Communicado.
