In this presentation we introduce radar for machine perception. Radar is a proven technology with a long history of successive improvements that plays an increasingly important role in robust perception systems. We’ll delve into the fundamental principles of non-imaging and imaging radar. We’ll also discuss the signal processing algorithms used for extracting range, velocity and angle of arrival parameters from radar signals. Finally, we will explore recent advances and current trends in radar signal processing using machine learning and AI.

Vencatesh Subramanian has more than 15 years of experience in DSPs, automotive and consumer radar signal processing, 4G/5G communication signal processing and edge AI. He has been a part of the Tensilica DSP Group at Cadence for the last 10 years. Vencatesh currently leads the automotive and consumer radar DSP-based embedded software engineering R & D team and has previously led presales customer support for radar customer engagements.

Amol Borkar
Product Marketing Director, Cadence
Amol Borkar is Product Marketing Director at Cadence. Since joining in 2018 as a Senior Product Manager, he has led the development of many successful hardware and software products, including Tensilica’s latest Vision P1 DSP, targeted for ultra-low-power, always-on usages. Within Tensilica, he has been responsible for product management, marketing, partnerships and ecosystem growth for the Vision, ConnX and MathX families of DSPs. Previously, Amol was a part of Intel’s RealSense Group, where he held various positions in engineering, product management and marketing and was responsible for the success of a number of RealSense’s 3D cameras. Before joining Intel, he developed computer vision-based advanced driver-assistance algorithms for self-driving vehicles as part of his PhD thesis—work that resulted in numerous conference and journal publications and for which he received the Outstanding Researcher Award in 2011 from Georgia Tech’s Center for Signal and Image Processing.
