SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics. It strengthens the global optics and photonics community through conferences, publications, and professional development, bringing together engineers, scientists, students, and industry leaders to advance light-based science and technologies.

The mission of SPIE is to partner with researchers, educators, and industry to advance light-based research and technologies for the betterment of the human condition. SPIE accomplishes this by:

1. Organizing major events: approximately 25 technical forums, exhibitions, and education programs each year, including SPIE Photonics West, where more than 35,000 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs showcase the latest innovations
2. Publishing the SPIE Digital Library, the world’s largest collection of optics and photonics applied research
3. Supporting the international optics community, contributing more than $26 million over the past five years through scholarships, educational resources, travel grants, and public-policy development
