Through leading three deep-tech start-ups to exits, I received a lot of advice and insights from venture investors, co-founders, customers and other tech entrepreneurs. I have always been fascinated by the success and failure stories of businesses in general, and tech start-ups in particular. Since my last exit and through word-of-mouth introductions, I have been advising dozens of fellow entrepreneurs and realized that the central challenge my companies faced—and that of the start-ups I advised faced—is essentially turning baseline technology differentiation into strategy for dominance. In this talk we’ll explore the major steps needed to achieve this, including identifying blind spots, instilling market-driven thinking, establishing a detailed go-to-market pathway and pressure-testing the story.
