EDGE AI AND VISION ALLIANCE EVENT APP AND PLATFORM PRIVACY POLICY

General

We are Berkeley Design Technology, Inc. (the “Alliance”, “we”, “us” and “our”), the operator of the Edge AI and Vision Alliance and the presenter of in-person and virtual events associated with the Edge AI and Vision Alliance, including the Embedded Vision Summit (each, an “Event”). We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

Scope of Policy

This privacy policy applies to your use of:

• The mobile application software provides for interaction with presentations and attendees at each Event, which contains either this Privacy Policy or a link to this Privacy Policy (the “App”) once you have downloaded the App onto your mobile phone or handheld device (“Device”); and
• Any of the services accessible through the App or which we provide to deliver some or all of the functionality of the App (the latter is the “Platform”, and collectively the “Services”).

This policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you or others provide to us, will be processed by us. Please read the following carefully to understand our views and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. In particular, note that we will use your data to propose connections with other users of the App. This is based on information you provided to us in connection with the Event.

The purpose of our Services is to ensure our attendees make the most out of our Events.  The Services constitute a closed-audience social network and online platform for professionals attending an Event (“Attendees”) and who sponsor or provide Event exhibitions, presentations, or other elements of the Event (“Sponsors”). People use our services to prepare and manage their experience, as well as to contact and be contacted by industry peers.

 Information We May Collect from You

Volunteered information:

• To register for an Event you need to provide data including your name, email address and/or mobile number, and your business details.  You may provide this information in our Event registration system, and we will import it to the Services when you link the Services to our Event registration system, or you may provide it or revise it within the Services. The creation of a Services account in your name is a condition of your attendance of the Event. The basic information required to create a Services account are your name, email address, job title, company name and attendance details. Upon activation of your Services account you are also prompted to create a password for your own use. You create, access and control the information entered in your profile.
• You may give us additional information about you by completing your profile or filling in forms in the Services or with our separate Event registration system, or by corresponding with us (for example, by e-mail or chat). This includes information you provide when you register to use the Services, subscribe to any of our Services, search for another user, connect with another user, share data via the Services’ social media functions, enter a competition, promotion or survey, and when you report a problem with the Services. The information you give us may include your name, address, company affiliation, job title and responsibilities, e-mail address and phone number, the Device’s phone number, your age, username, password and other registration information, personal description and photograph. It will also include the details of any presentation, session, mixer or other opportunity for which you have registered in connection with an Event.
• You have choices about which information you display on your profile. These choices may be limited according to your profile type. Your profile type is set for you upon the creation of your Services account and cannot be changed except upon our approval of your request. Provision of your business details on your profile is a condition of your Event attendance. Some profile fields are not compulsory; however, profile information helps you get more from the Event, including the most relevant meetings and activities. The majority of your profile information is available to all Attendees and Sponsors, while your email address and telephone number are available only to your connections unless you have modified your Services account settings to either keep such contact information  private or share it more broadly, so please do not post or add personal data to the public portions of your profile unless you want that personal data publicly available.
• Polls and surveys are conducted by us through Survey Monkey and published in the Services. You are not obligated to respond to these surveys, and you have choices about the information you provide.

Automatically collected information 

Each time you use the Services we may automatically collect the following information:

• Technical information, including the type of mobile device you use (model, manufacture and library version), a unique device identifier (for example, when you use the App, mobile network information, your IP address, your mobile operating system, time zone setting.
• Details of your use of the Services and the resources and features that you access, the users you connect or communicate with (or you decline to connect or communicate with, or who decline to connect or communicate with you), when you view or click on content (e.g., meeting preferences, ratings, etc.), install or update the App (“Log Information”).
  • Log Information includes information about you when you send, receive or interact with messages sent by our staff, Attendees, or Sponsors. We do not scan or learn about the content of your correspondence but only track the fact of the communication or interaction.
• If you use our Services on a mobile device, that device will send us data about your location based on your phone settings. We will ask you to opt in before we use GPS or other tools to identify your precise location.

Uses made of the information

We use information held about you in the following ways:

• We use volunteered personal information to communicate with you and to enable you to communicate with other users of the Services.
  • We may contact you via email, mobile phone, messages to our platform inbox, and other ways including text messages and push notifications.
  • We may send you messages about your attendance or important information regarding your attendance at an Event.  Please be aware that you cannot opt out of receiving Event-related messages from us during Events. 
  • We may also contact you as Events approach with guidance about how to best take advantage of the Services to get the most out of the Events you attend.
  • You may be able to send direct messages to Attendees and Sponsors, and you may also receive direct messages from Attendees and Sponsors.  
  • We may also use your personal data to provide you with marketing messages about other products and services we or our partners provide which may be of interest to you.
• We use volunteered personal information to help us provide you with the various features of the Services and to personalize your experience.  We will also use the information in your profile to display your profile to other users, and may propose you as a potential connection for other users. 
• We use both volunteered and automatically collected information (including survey feedback) to conduct research and development for the further development of our platform. 
• We use both volunteered and automatically collected information to help you and to fix problems; and to investigate, respond to reports of and resolve Services issues (e.g., bugs).
• We use information about your Device to better understand who uses the App and quickly understand if bugs are related to specific devices.

If you do not want to receive communications from us, please indicate your preference by emailing [email protected], using an opt-out link in the email, replying “STOP” to a text message from us, or changing your preferences in your Services account.  You may also disable push notifications from the App in your Device settings.  We send administrative and legal notices by email and text message; you can opt out of administrative and legal text messages by replying “STOP”, but we do not presently allow opt-out from the email version of those notices.

We may associate any category of information with any other category of information and will treat the combined information as personal data in accordance with this policy for as long as it is combined.

We also anonymize and aggregate both volunteered and automatically collected information such that it can no longer identify you as an individual. We do this for various purposes including research and improving our Services, reporting to third parties or publishing demographic information.

Disclosure of your information

Automatically shared information:

Any data that you include in the public portions of your profile may be seen by other Attendees and Sponsors. 

Messages exchanged between users may of course be read by those users, and by any third party with which those users may share the messages.

Do not place information in public portions of your profile or share information through messages that you do not wish to become public.  We cannot control the use of that information.

We may disclose your personal information to third parties:

• We may use other service providers to help us support and develop our platform (e.g., maintenance, analysis, audit, marketing and development). They will have access to your information as reasonably necessary to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for other purposes.
• If the Alliance or substantially all of the assets relating to the Events are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by it about its customers will be one of the transferred assets. Any other entity which buys us or part of our business will have the right to continue to use your personal data, but only in the manner set out in this Privacy Policy unless you agree otherwise.
• If we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal or regulatory obligation or request.
• In order to:
  • enforce or apply our agreements or to investigate potential security issues; and
  • protect the rights, property or safety of the Alliance, Attendees, Sponsors, our customers, or others. This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
• We may provide various third parties (including Sponsors) with anonymous aggregate information about our users. This data will not identify you as an individual.
• Your contact information and information about your activities within the Event, including with whom you connected or communicated using the Services, may be shared with members of the Edge AI and Vision Alliance, as well as Sponsors at the Event, for their use in contacting you regarding their products and services.

Cookie Policy

The Alliance believes in being clear and open about how we collect and use data related to you. In the spirit of transparency, this policy provides detailed information about how and when we use cookies. This cookie policy applies to the Services that link to this policy or incorporate it by reference.

A cookie is a small file placed onto your device that enables our platform features and functionality.  Cookies can be used to recognize you when you visit our Platform, remember your preferences, and give you a personalized experience. Cookies also make your interactions with our Platform faster and more secure.

We use cookies and other technologies to ensure everyone who uses our Platform has the best possible experience. Cookies also help us keep your account safe. By continuing to visit or use our Services, you are agreeing to the use of cookies and similar technologies for the purposes we describe in this policy.

We use two types of cookies: persistent cookies and session cookies. A persistent cookie helps us recognize you as an existing user, so it’s easier to interact with our Services more than once without signing in again. After you sign in, a persistent cookie stays in your browser and will be read by our Services when you return to one of our sites. Session cookies only last for as long as the session (usually the current visit to a website or a browser session).

If you do not want to receive cookies, you can change your browser settings on your computer or other device you’re using to access our Platform. If you use our Platform without changing your browser settings, we’ll assume that you’re happy to receive all cookies on our website. Most browsers also provide functionality that lets you review and erase cookies, including our Platform cookies. Please note that the Platform may not work properly without cookies.

What is Do Not Track (DNT)?

DNT is a concept that has been promoted by regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), for the Internet industry to develop and implement a mechanism for allowing Internet users to control the tracking of their online activities across websites by using browser settings. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has been working with industry groups, Internet browsers, technology companies, and regulators to develop a DNT technology standard. While some progress has been made, it has been slow. No standard has been adopted to this date. As such, our Platform does not generally respond to “do not track” signals.

Disabling your Services account

You can disable your account at any time using the ‘Delete Profile’ button in the App.

Security

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to or through the Services; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorized access.

The Services include chat features. Ensure when using these features that you do not submit any personal data that you do not want to be seen, collected or used by other users.

Automated Profiling

To assist us in providing an effective networking service, in addition to the data that you provide to us if you register, we may also obtain data from your usage of the Services to help us understand what you might be interested in, or who you might be interested in connecting with. This ‘profiling’ activity is powered by algorithms in our software which makes calculations about potential preferences or requirements you might have about what you see in the Services or who we think you might wish to connect with. There’s no consequence for you of this profiling other than hopefully refining and improving what we suggest to you in the Services.

Marketing

You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. You can exercise the right at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

Information for Persons Outside the U.S.

If you use our Service from outside of the United States, you understand that we may collect, process, and store your personal information in the United States and other countries. The laws in the U.S. regarding personal information may be different from the laws of your state or country. Any such transfers will comply with safeguards as required by relevant law.

Children

We do not knowingly collect or process any information from anyone under 16 years of age. Our Services are directed to people who are at least 16 years old.

The Services may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of others. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services, such as contact and location data. Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services.

Changes to Privacy Policy

Any changes we may make to our privacy policy in the future will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you when you next start the App or access the Platform. The new terms may be displayed on-screen and you may be required to read and accept them to continue your use of the Services.
